Hops 101 – Know Your Hops!

August 29 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
$10

Citrus, pine, floral, spicy, earthy, tropical fruit—what do those descriptions actually taste and smell like in a hop?

Join us for Hops 101, a hands-on introduction to one of beer’s most interesting ingredients. We’ll explore how hops contribute bitterness, flavor, and aroma, how timing during the brewing process changes what ends up in your glass, and how brewers choose and combine varieties to create different beer styles.

The highlight of the class will be a guided sensory tasting using individual hop infusions made from several common varieties. You’ll be able to smell and taste them side-by-side, identify their different personalities, and begin building your own sensory vocabulary.

We’ll cover hop anatomy, alpha acids and IBUs, hop oils, bittering vs. flavor vs. aroma additions, classic and modern hop families, recipe selection, and hop storage.

Designed for new and experienced homebrewers—and anyone who wants to understand what hops are actually contributing to their beer.
